There is no doubt: Portoferraio is well worth a visit.
A pioneer in Elba’s tourist industry, Residence Capobianco still enjoys a pre-eminent role in the island’s hospitality.
It has a fine position. Protected in a residential area, at the end of an unpaved road, surrounded by a garden of Mediterranean plants, by the sea, it is at Portoferraio, a few minutes from the ferries, the old town, the Medici port and the marina of the island’s capital, the ancient harbour with shelter from all winds.
HISTORY – CULTURE – SHOPPING
From the view from Residence Capobianco there is no mistaking the massive size of the fortifications, built on the basis of perfect geometrical ratios: an impregnable fortress, nowadays Elba’s capital is a town for holidaying all year round, not only offering bars, restaurants and shops on the seafront, but also the starting-point for itineraries and trails which cross Elba in all directions, and the embarkation point for boat trips to explore the other islands in the Tuscan Archipelago.
